Food & Drink
Snack and drink vending machines are available on many of North Carolina's ferries and at most terminals. Coffee is not provided on sound-class vessels, and meals are not served on any ferry.
Alcoholic beverages and smoking are prohibited aboard all ferry vessels.
Restrooms
Restrooms are available at each terminal and on vessels.
Pets
Pets are permitted on ferries, but they must be kept in vehicles or on leashes at all times, and owners must clean up after them. Horses must be transported in a horse trailer. Only service animals are allowed inside Ferry Visitor Centers or Ferry Passenger Lounges.
Accessibility
Facilities are available for people with disabilities at all terminals, and all ferries on Cedar Island-Ocracoke and Swan Quarter-Ocracoke routes accommodate wheelchairs. Some boats on other routes do not have restroom accommodations for individuals with disabilities. Any ferries built in the future, however, will.
Safety & Security
All ferry vessels have life vests for passenger capacity, including those for children. Life rafts and rescue boats are also on board each vessel, along with a trained and certified crew with life-saving and CPR credentials. Each vessel has a defibrillator on board and approved safety plans in place.
Before boarding, passengers might be asked to show a photo ID, and vehicles are subject to random screening. Under federal law, the N.C. Ferry Division reserves the right to refuse passage to travelers who choose not to provide photo identification or undergo random security screenings.
