Project Highlights

The N.C. Department of Transportation is proposing to replace the bridge on Causeway Drive (U.S. 76) and the two bridges on West Salisbury Street (U.S. 74) that provide access to Wrightsville Beach.

To minimize congestion and delays during construction, the contractor will maintain traffic onto the island via “on-site detour” and phased construction. The proposed bridges will include the following design elements:

Causeway Drive (U.S. 76) crossing Banks Channel

  • Four-lane divided bridge
  • Two eastbound lanes entering the island (11.5-foot lanes)
  • Two westbound lanes exiting the island (11-foot lanes)
  • 12-foot multi-use path on the north side of the bridge
  • One 6-foot bike lane on each bridge
