The proposed widening of U.S. 64 from east of Interstate 85 in Lexington to the Asheboro Bypass is divided into three sections: B, C and DA. Currently, section DA is state-funded.

Project Development
As part of the project development process for the proposed widening of U.S. 64 project, the N.C. Department of Transportation is studying potential impacts to communities, the environment and other factors. NCDOT’s main objective is to minimize impacts whenever possible. The project development process includes an evaluation of the following:
- Bike and pedestrian facilities
- Community resources
- Cultural resources
- Natural resources
- Public and stakeholder input
- Roadway design
