Proposed Design and Cross-Section
Following data collection, field studies and input from stakeholders and the public, the N.C. Department of Transportation developed a proposed design that includes widening Catawba Avenue to a four-lane, divided road with:
- 11-foot travel lanes
- 10-12 foot multiuse paths on each side
- A 23-foot raised median
- Curb and gutter
This proposed design would improve traffic flow, enhance safety, and accommodate both pedestrians and bicyclists. It has taken into account the high volume of boat traffic along West Catawba Avenue.
