Full Eastbound Road and Lane Closures on Triangle Expressway Planned for Overnight Work

RALEIGH – The North Carolina Turnpike Authority will implement a full closure of all eastbound lanes between exit 54 at the N.C. 55 Bypass interchange and exit 50 at the Holly Springs Road interchange on the Triangle Expressway on Friday, January 24, from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. the next morning.

This overnight closure is necessary to allow crews to safely install toll gantry trusses at the eastbound toll gantry between exit 54 and exit 50. The overnight timeframe has been chosen to minimize disruption to as many drivers as possible.

During the closure, all eastbound traffic will be detoured off the Triangle Expressway at the N.C. 55 Bypass interchange.

Motorists will use the following detour route to navigate around the closure:

  • Take exit 54 and turn right onto the N.C. 55 Bypass
  • Turn left onto Holly Springs Road
  • Take the eastbound entrance ramp back onto the Triangle Expressway at the Holly Springs Road interchange at exit 50
Signage will be in place to guide drivers through the detour.

Before all lanes close and the detour is put in place, two of the three lanes will be closed between exits 54 and 50 beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 24. All lanes will close promptly at 11:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. the following morning. At 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, one lane will reopen, and the detour will be removed. Two of the three lanes will remain closed until Monday, January 27 at 3:00 p.m.

Motorists are advised to plan ahead and allow extra travel time if they anticipate traveling in the area during the closure. Drivers are urged to exercise caution and obey posted speed limits and detour signs.
