WINSTON SALEM – A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will implement a traffic shift on Interstate 74 this week as part of the Winston-Salem Northern Beltway Project, weather-permitting.
Beginning at 9 a.m. on June 27, Flatiron Construction Corporation will shift traffic onto the permanent eastbound lanes of I-74 between Ridgewood Road and Union Cross Road. The shift is necessary for the construction of the next section of a new bridge and travel lanes that will connect the beltway to the existing I-74 near Union Cross Road.
Nearby lanes on the interstate will be closed between 9:00am and 3:00pm for the installation of new pavement markings and concrete barrier. The eastbound onramp from Ridgewood Road to I-74 will also be closed for a short duration while traffic is being shifted to the new lanes.
A reduced speed limit will also be in place in the construction area during work hours.
Drivers are advised to use caution while traveling through the work zone and to plan accordingly for delays.
