BUTNER- Improvements to the intersection of N.C. 56 and West Lyon Station Road are scheduled to begin next year thanks to a recent $6.2 million contract from the N.C. Department of Transportation to Sunrock Industries LLC.
The project will realign West Lyon Station Road near Interstate 85 and N.C. 56 (East C Street) to provide greater separation between the intersections, improving safety and reducing congestion. Work will include installing water and sewer, storm drains, curbs, gutters, asphalt, and striping. The project also involves rehabilitating the N.C. 56 bridge over I-85.
Construction could begin as early as this winter, with completion anticipated by summer 2026. This timeline excludes planting, reforestation, and permanent vegetation.
