RALEIGH – The following are highlights from this week at the N.C. Department of Transportation. The stories below are also featured in NCDOT Now, the department's weekly newscast.

Executive Order Waives Some DMV Fees

Gov. Roy Cooper recently signed Executive Order 323 to ease requirements and fee collections for residents of western North Carolina in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

As a result, the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles has waived the collection of certain fees, including late fees, and has suspended other requirements for residents and businesses. The order also extends certain licenses for mechanics and car dealers.

All-Way Stops

Transportation officials across North Carolina are converting intersections to all-way stops to improve safety.

All-way stops have been shown to reduce fatalities and injuries by 77%.

They reduce the need for drivers to wait until there is a safe gap in opposing traffic and are more predictable than traffic signals.

Crash Responder Safety Week

NCDOT is reminding drivers: any time they encounter emergency vehicles with red, blue or amber lights flashing, they are required to move over if possible or at least slow down considerably.

Gov. Cooper has declared the week of Nov. 18 as "Crash Responder Safety Week" in North Carolina.

More than 41,000 traffic incident management responders have been trained statewide. These responders help to quickly clear highway crashes and incidents, while ensuring the safety and efficiency of drivers throughout the state.

Please remember, when approaching a responder on an active call, to move over or slow downit's the law.
