HILLSBOROUGH – As part of the ongoing Interstate 40 Widening Project, overnight closures are planned for next week in Orange County.
Starting Monday, I-40 West and Old N.C. 86 will be closed overnight for bridge work. The closures on I-40 will occur Monday through Wednesday, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night, with all work expected to be completed by 5 a.m. on Thursday. Old N.C. 86 will remain closed nightly through Friday during the same hours for ongoing construction activities.
During these closures, drivers traveling west on I-40 will be detoured at Exit 261. Traffic will cross Old N.C. 86 and then use the on-ramp to re-enter I-40.
A separate signed detour will direct drivers around the Old N.C. 86 closure, using Waterstone Drive, N.C. 86, and New Hope Church Road to bypass the affected area.
NCDOT urges motorists to plan for potential delays and adjust their travel schedules as needed.
