NCDOT to Host Public Meetings for Replacement of Cape Fear Memorial Bridge

WILMINGTON – The public is invited to meet with state transportation officials next week to discuss the proposal and review alternatives to replace the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge and learn more about a project on South Front Street.

The N.C. Department of Transportation is looking at three alternatives to replace the bridge that crosses the Cape Fear River. More information, including project details and maps, can be found on the project website: ncdot.gov/CFMBreplacement.

The department will hold two meetings over two nights, one in New Hanover County and the other in Brunswick County.

The first meeting will be held on Oct. 8 at Cape Fear Community College’s Union Station Daniel’s Hall Room – 502 North Front Street in Wilmington. This meeting will also include information about the future project to widen South Front Street.

The second meeting will be held Oct. 9 at North Brunswick High Schools’ gymnasium – 114 Scorpion Drive NE in Leland. We still expect there will be questions about Front Street, so we will have maps and people available to discuss the project at this meeting as well.

The public is invited to attend either meeting any time between 5-7 p.m. Staff will be available for discussion and to answer questions; there will not be a formal presentation.

For the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge project, people may submit comments by Oct. 25 by calling 984-205-6615 and entering project code 10626 or emailing CapeFearMemorialBridge@publicinput.com.

For the Front Street project, people may submit comments by Oct. 25 by calling 984-205-6615 and entering project code 10422 or emailing FrontStreetImprovements@publicinput.com.

NCDOT will provide auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with Disabilities Act for disabled people who wish to participate in this meeting. Anyone requiring special services should contact Diane Wilson, Environmental Analysis Unit, at 919-707-6073 or pdwilson1@ncdot.gov as early as possible so arrangements can be made.
