SOUTHPORT – N.C. Department of Transportation staff and contract crews are actively working to reopen the following three bridges in Brunswick County that were washed out by flood waters earlier this week.
Crews are paving the bridge over Beaverdam Creek on Friday, and it is expected to reopen late Friday afternoon.
The bridge over Dutchman Creek will have a drainage pipe installed temporarily – this work is expected to take several weeks – before the bridge can be reopened. Contract crews plan to have traffic on a new bridge within the next year or so.
The third bridge, over the canal, is also expected to reopen to traffic in several weeks as crews continue to assess the damage and develop a repair plan.
NCDOT appreciates the publics continued patience during this work. The Department urges drivers to not drive around barricades for everyone’s safety and to plan their commute, as it will take longer than normal.
At this time, the focus of the contractor is getting traffic restored on N.C. 211, so work on the widening project is paused. To read more about the project, visit this webpage.
