Raleigh- Contractors for the N.C. Department of Transportation plan to close a section of Interstate 40 tonight, weather permitting, as part of the I-40 widening project from southeast Raleigh to Clayton.
Starting at 9 tonight, the left two lanes will be closed between Jones Sausage Road and the I-440 junction beginning at 9 p.m., followed by a full closure of I-40 West at the junction from 10:30 p.m. until 5 a.m. Friday. During this time, drivers will be detoured to follow I-440 West to Poole Road to return to I-40 West.
The closures are needed for crews to safely conduct shoulder and lane paving along this stretch of I-40.
Drivers should be mindful of crews working close to the travel lanes in this area and factor the detour into their commute.
