Pitt County Intersection to Become All-Way Stop

SIMPSON – A Pitt County intersection will become an all-way stop this week to improve safety.

The N.C. Department of Transportation alerted drivers to the change at Simpson and McDonald streets last week. Crews will implement the all-way stop Tuesday morning weather permitting.

Currently, drivers on Simpson Street must stop at the intersection with McDonald Street. NCDOT crews will add four stop signs in total to McDonald Street:

  • Two will be added to newly constructed concrete islands in the center turn on both sides of the intersection; and

  • Two more on the right-hand sides of the roadway.

Drivers are urged to slow down while crews are working and be cautious of the new traffic pattern.

An all-way stop is an effective and cost-efficient way to improve the safety of an intersection and reduce the risk of serious crashes. To learn more, visit this NCDOT webpage.
