This Week at NCDOT: Preparedness Month and Kids' Fare

RALEIGH – The following are highlights from this week at the N.C. Department of Transportation. The stories below are also featured in NCDOT Now, the department's weekly newscast.

Preparedness Month

August is preparedness month, and the N.C. Department of Transportation is encouraging folks to talk with their families and make sure everyone knows the plan in the event of an emergency or evacuation.

With potential tropical storms in the east and snow and ice in the west, North Carolinians everywhere should know what resources are available if they have to get out on the roads:

  • Before driving, check DriveNC.gov to see what roads are safe to travel.
  • For coastal residents, visit KnowYourZone.nc.gov to have an evacuation plan in the event of a storm.
Meanwhile, department employees have been hard at work preparing in their own right, stockpiling materials and training crews to be ready to respond, wherever they are needed.

Kids' Fare

From now until Aug. 31, customers can enjoy a one-way $5 kids’ fare to any North Carolina station when paired with a regular adult ticket.

To take advantage of this deal, visit NCbyTrain.org and use discount code V256 at checkout.
