WINSTON-SALEM – Starting tonight, an N.C. Department of Transportation contractor will implement ramp and lane closures on Interstate 40 for construction and ongoing maintenance projects, weather permitting.
The following closures are scheduled to take place from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning:
- On July 5-6, two of three lanes are scheduled to be closed on I-40 West from U.S. 52 to west of Peters Creek Parkway.
- On July 6, one of two lanes are scheduled to be closed on I-40 West from west of Highway 66 to Union Cross Road.
Beginning at 10 p.m., the right lane on Exit 188 off I-40 West, which facilitates access to U.S. 421 North, will be closed. This closure is necessary to allow construction crews to make repairs to the bridge deck on the exit.
The right lane closure will remain in place around the clock for approximately 11 days. Once work is completed on the right side of the bridge, the right lane closure will be removed and the left lane will be closed for about 10 days. All work is expected to be complete on the bridge by July 26.
Motorists should use caution while traveling through the work zone and plan accordingly for delays.
