JACKSONVILLE – The N.C. Department of Transportation is working with its partners to manage traffic at two roadway locations in Jacksonville, as a power line is installed by Duke Energy.
The work will be broken up into two phases. Work on the first phase will occur on the U.S. 17 / N.C. 24 / N.C. 53 Bypass from June 11-15. While crews work, traffic will need to be intermittently stopped for brief periods. This stop-and-go pattern will cycle through the work period and traffic will be guided through the work area. Drivers should pay attention to the law enforcement officers that will be directing traffic at the signalized intersection of U.S. 258 / N.C. 24 / N.C. 53.
The second phase of work will occur on U.S. 258 (Richlands Highway) between Yopp Road and U.S. 17 Business from June 18-22. On these days, a section of the five-lane roadway will be reduced to one lane of travel in each direction. Also, like the week prior, there may be intermittent closures of the highway. Drivers should be cautious of flaggers directing them.
During both weeks, crews may work on the weekend between 6 a.m. and noon, then on Monday through Wednesday, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
NCDOT encourages drivers to plan ahead and avoid these areas when possible. Please slow down and stay alert near the work zones.
