MEBANE – Nightly closures are scheduled for this weekend and into next week on Interstate 40/85 as part of the project to improve the Mebane Oaks Road interchange.
To safely install new girders for the bridge widening, the contractor plans to install phased closures of the interstate in this area – closing one lane at 8 p.m., two lanes at 10 p.m., three lanes at midnight and all lanes at 1 a.m.
This is scheduled to be in effect for the I-40 West/I-85 South lanes Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights, and for the I-40 East/I-85 North lanes Wednesday and Thursday nights. All closures are set to be removed by 6 the following mornings.
During the times when the full closures are in place, drivers will be directed to follow a detour along Mebane Oaks Road, South Fifth Street and N.C. 119.
Drivers should prepare for these closures and associated detours and be mindful of the crews working near the interchange.
