Overnight Closure Planned for I-40/I-440 Junction in Southeast Raleigh

RALEIGH – N.C. Department of Transportation contractors are planning an overnight closure at the junction of Interstate 40 and I-440 Sunday night as part of the widening of I-40 from Southeast Raleigh to Clayton.

From 10 p.m. Sunday until 5 a.m. Monday, I-40 East will be closed at Exit 301 (I-440 West) as crews perform paving operations necessary to shift the travel lanes back towards the center. These lanes have been shifted closer to the outside shoulder for the last 18 months.

A detour will lead drivers to take the exit and proceed to Poole Road (Exit 15) to turn around and take Exit 16 to get back on I-40 East.

Drivers should allow extra time to navigate the detour route and pay extra attention while driving through the work zone.
