HENDERSONVILLE – A section of Interstate 26 East will be closed tonight and drivers will be shifted to a detour where signal timing is adjusted to provide longer green lights.
I-26 East will be closed no earlier than 8 p.m. from Long Shoals Road (Exit 37) to U.S. 25 Business (Exit 44) for a unique operation. Traffic will be detoured east on Long Shoals Road (N.C. 141) and south on Hendersonville Road (U.S. 25) to rejoin I-26 in Fletcher. I-26 West will have single lane closures in Buncombe County, but remain open overnight. All lanes will reopen by 6 a.m.
A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will be removing overhead sign structures and installing under-deck protection for the new bridge on Butler Bridge Road as part of the I-26 widening project.
The detour – which has been utilized multiple nights this year including last week – will use the Integrated Corridor Management system to provide longer green lights to accommodate additional traffic from the interstate.
