PINETOPS – The U.S. 258 bridge over Town Creek east of Pinetops will close for about one year while the structure is replaced.
The 73-year-old bridge has reached its useful life. While remaining safe, the bridge has become structurally deficient, which means it has aging components that require more maintenance.
Sanford Contractors Inc. of Lemon Springs will replace the bridge with a modern structure, thanks to a $1.85 million contract the N.C. Department of Transportation awarded last week.
The closure and construction are scheduled to start the week of June 14, and the contractor will have until May 2022 to complete the project and reopen the road. The detour will follow Brown Farm Road, Colonial Road and N.C. 42.
