ASHEVILLE – As the fall season continues and winter is soon to set in, the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles is opening a new express driver license walk-in office in Asheville to make it more convenient for people to conduct their business.
Starting October 27, the office will offer express services such as getting a REAL ID, renewing a driver license or state ID, ordering a duplicate license or ID card, and handling address changes. Please note: this office is now closed indefinitely. No road or knowledge skills tests or check of legal presence documents will be handled at the office, which will be open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Unlike almost all other DMV license offices in the state, this location will not require an appointment. It is just the second express license office in the state. The first opened in Greensboro in 2019.
Although appointments are not required, customers at the Asheville express location, as well as at all other DMV license offices in the state, are required to wear a mask or other face covering.
Customers are also reminded that a number of online services are available at: www.MyNCDMV.gov.
