GARNER — As a part of the Complete 540 project, N.C. Department of Transportation contractors plan to close Interstate 40 West at the N.C. 42 interchange for several nights over the next two weeks.
On the nights of Oct. 4-10 and Oct. 12-14, crews will close I-40 West from 10:30 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.
A detour will direct drivers to take Exit 312 for N.C. 42 East to U.S. 70 West to get back onto I-40 West.
On Oct. 5, 7 and 9, the right lane and Exit 309 (U.S. 70 East/Clayton Bypass) will close at 8 p.m. On the other nights, the right lane and exit will close at 9 p.m.
The closures are necessary to set girders and perform other work on the eastern half of the new Triangle Expressway (Toll N.C. 540) bridge over the highway. These closures are similar to those held on I-40 East over the last two weeks.
Motorists need to slow down and pay extra attention as they travel through the work zone and allow extra time for the detour.
