FAYETTEVILLE – A state transportation contractor will temporarily close Raeford Road in western Fayetteville this weekend as part of the Fayetteville Outer Loop construction.
The contractor plans to set steel girders nearly 300 feet long over Raeford Road that will be used for the N.C. 295 interchange under construction. The road will close in both directions just west of the traffic signal at the Fayetteville VA Health Center entrance.
The closure is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Friday and end by 5 a.m. Monday.
Because heavy truck traffic uses this route, the NCDOT has established a 10-mile signed detour along Skibo and Cliffdale roads, which have multiple lanes and can carry the anticipated influx of vehicles this weekend.
This section of the Fayetteville Outer Loop is scheduled to open by this fall, when drivers will be able to hop onto it at Raeford Road and travel along N.C. 295 to Interstate 95, or vice versa. The department opened the latest section, from the All American Freeway to Cliffdale Road, last November.
