Roundabout Construction Starting in Brevard

BREVARD – A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will close Ecusta Road in Brevard to through traffic on Wednesday, July 31, in order to construct a roundabout.

The roundabout at the intersection of Ecusta Road and a new to-be-named road between U.S. 64 and U.S. 276 in the area will take 60 days to complete.

Local traffic will be able to access Ecusta Road from either Old Hendersonville Highway on the south side or U.S. 276 on the north side. Marked detours will direct traffic to use U.S. 276 and Morris Road to drive around the construction.

Roundabouts are intended to improve safety by reducing crashes at intersections. They also can reduce congestion and backups that take place at more typical intersections with stop signs and traffic signals as drivers typically can get through the roundabout quicker than waiting for a traffic signal to change or to taking turns at stop signs.
