WHITSETT – N.C. Department of Transportation maintenance crews plan to reduce lanes on Interstate 40/85 in Guilford County on Thursday morning to backfill a pair of sinkholes.
Starting at 9 a.m., the left lanes in both directions will be closed between the exits for Mt. Hope Church Road and Rock Creek Dairy Road.
The closures will allow crews to safely access the sinkholes caused by a collapsed drainage pipe. The repair will begin on the westbound side (going toward Greensboro) and then shift to the eastbound side, which is expected to be complete by Friday.
Drivers should slow down and be on the lookout for the lane closures and be cautious throughout the work zone.
