CHARLOTTE – Starting Tuesday night, N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will begin installing a barrier wall on Interstate 277, so they safely can begin working on bridge joints on the Outer Loop crossing the railroad tracks, Morehead Street and Mint Street.
Weather permitting, the lane reductions on I-277 will begin at 9 p.m.
The closure will be moved a few hundred feet a few days later to continue work between Church Street and South Boulevard.
Two travel lanes will remain open during this phase of the project. This traffic pattern will be in place for several weeks.
The work is part of a $16.3 million project to improve 22 bridges along Interstate 277.
