Bridge Replacement Project Begins This Week in Davidson County

DENTON – A detour goes into effect this week as N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews begin replacing a bridge in Davidson County with a culvert under the roadway.

The Old Hwy 109 bridge over West Branch Lick Creek, north of Denton, is scheduled to close the morning of April 16 and remain closed through July 30. The bridge is located just south of the railroad tracks.

If the work concludes early, the bridge will open accordingly.

The signed detour route will follow N.C. 109 and Cid Road. Drivers should slow down near the work zone and allow for extra travel time because of the detour.

This is one of several projects to replace outdated bridges with box culverts in Davidson and Rowan counties, each job taking about three months.

As part of this same contract, crews have already replaced the bridge over Leonard Creek on Lake Leonard Road and work to replace the bridge over South Potts Creek on Wilson Road is currently underway.
