Weekend Traffic Shift, Lane Closure as Part of Capital Boulevard Bridges Project

RALEIGH Work on the Capital Boulevard bridge replacements project will require a short-term traffic shift and lane closure this weekend.

Starting Friday at 9 p.m., contractors will be removing and replacing the existing northbound Capital Boulevard roadway surface between Dortch Street and the Wade Avenue bridge. To allow a safe buffer for crews, traffic will be diverted to a temporary lane installed adjacent to the existing roadway. Orange traffic drums will be placed to indicate the temporary lane.

Work is expected to be finished and all lanes open to normal traffic patterns by 6 a.m. Monday.

This work is dependent on weather and subject to delay if conditions are poor.

Another long-term closure remains in place as work continues on the new flyover ramp from eastbound Wade Avenue to northbound Capital Boulevard. That is expected to open in April.

Drivers are urged to slow down and pay attention as they approach the work zone and temporary traffic pattern.

Updated information on the project to replace the Wade Avenue bridge and the Capital Boulevard bridge over Peace Street is available on the project website and on the NCDOT Triangle Twitter feed.
