N.C. Hosts REAL ID Express Day in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE – The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles will extend the hours at the Jacksonville driver license office on Saturday so people can get their N.C. REAL IDs quicker.

REAL ID Day will be from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at the Jacksonville driver license office, 299 Wilmington Highway. This is the second in a series of REAL ID Days DMV is hosting to help people get the federal identifications.

Starting in October 2020, people will be required to have a REAL ID or valid U.S. passport for flying, entering federal facilities and visiting military installations. Some military bases, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, already require REAL ID.

People who visit the Jacksonville office on Saturday will be able to convert their current driver license or ID cards to REAL IDs at an express services lane. Express services include renewals, duplicates and ID cards. First time ID cards will also be available.

Knowledge tests, driving skills tests and legal presence or lawful status transactions will also be available.

To obtain a REAL ID, residents will need to bring the following documents to the driver license office:

  • One (1) proof of identity/date of birth: certified birth certificate or unexpired U.S. passport
  • One (1) proof of full Social Security Number: Social Security card, W-2 or 1099
  • Two (2) proofs of current physical address: driver license, vehicle registration card, voter registration card, utility bill, cable bill, bank statement
  • Proof of name change (if applicable): certified marriage license, divorce decree and/or court document indicating the name change (depends on number of name changes)

Additional documents are available at NCREALID.gov.

DMV officials will announce additional REAL ID Days in other North Carolina offices.

More than 1 million North Carolinians have obtained a REAL ID since its debut in May 2017.
