Smoother Roads on the Way in Gaston County

GASTONIA – Drivers in Gaston County will soon have a smoother ride on sections of N.C. 279, U.S. 321, N.C. 27, N.C. 216, N.C. 273 and N.C. 274, thanks to a $10.3 million contract awarded to improve about 45 miles of roadway.

The contract awarded to Asphalt Paving of Shelby, Inc. also includes milling, resurfacing and shoulder reconstruction on 77 sections of secondary roads throughout the county.

Work can start as early as April 1 and should be completed by June 15, 2020.

This is one of 21 major highway and bridge projects awarded this month by the NCDOT. Per state law they went to the lowest bidder among qualified contractors. They are worth $331.5 million, more than $57 million under engineer estimates.
