FAYETTEVILLE – The public is invited to
comment on a proposal to redirect left turns from two T-intersections with
Bingham Drive in western Cumberland County.
The N.C. Department of Transportation would close two concrete
median breaks that currently allow motorists on Greenock Avenue and Pepperbush
Drive to turn left onto Bingham Drive, a main corridor connecting several large
neighborhoods in western Fayetteville. Instead, the motorists would be directed
to turn right, and if they wished to go in the other direction, they would make
a U-turn farther up on Bingham Drive.
Additionally, the department would reconfigure the concrete medians
into a design known as a directional crossover that would continue to allow
traffic on Bingham Drive to turn left at those two intersections.
The project would reduce the risk of crashes and improve traffic
flow on Bingham Drive.
Project information and materials may viewed on the NCDOT
website.
Area residents can also review plans, ask NCDOT representatives
questions and provide written comments during an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. on
Tuesday, March 6, at Arran Lake Baptist Church, 1130 Bingham Drive. Comments may
be submitted until March 20.
