RALEIGH – The following are highlights
from this week at the N.C. Department of Transportation. The stories below are
also featured in NCDOT Now,
the department’s weekly newscast.
Wildflower Bed Prep
Spring is around the corner, and that means it’s time for crews to
start prepping wildflower beds for the flowers along the state’s roadways as
part of the popular North Carolina Wildflower Program.
This week, crews in some parts of the state began preparing the
beds and applying fertilizer to help encourage vibrant blooms throughout the
summer. Not only do the flower beds beautify the state’s roadsides, but they
also serve as habitats for the state’s dwindling number of bees, hummingbirds
and other pollinator species.
NCDOT’s Wildflower Program began in 1985 and is
nationally-recognized. It is funded through the sale of personalized license
plates and direct contributions.
To learn more about the program or the types of wildflowers that
are planted, visit the NCDOT
website.

the Mountains to Coast bicycle ride.
