Charlotte - Work to improve nearly 60 miles of Cleveland County roads can get underway later this spring, thanks to a $9 million N.C. Department of Transportation contract.
The contract awarded to Asphalt Paving of Shelby, Inc. includes work on sections of N.C. 216, N.C. 150, N.C. 180, N.C. 182, and more than 50 sections of secondary roads.
The contract also calls for milling, resurfacing, and widening and shoulder reconstruction.
Work can start as early as May 1, and should be completed by June 28, 2019.
This was one of 16 road and bridge contracts recently awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation. Per state law they went to the lowest qualified bidder for each project. The contracts are worth $429.7 million, nearly $39 million under engineer estimates.
