New Bridge to Come on Poplin Road in Stanly County

CHARLOTTE – A bridge crossing Long Creek on Poplin Road in New London will soon be improved, thanks to a $619,000 contract awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation to Smith-Rowe, LLC of Mount Airy.

While construction is underway, motorists will be detoured along Kendalls Church Road, Old Salisbury Road, Austin Road and Harwood Road. Traffic coming in the opposite direction will follow this detour in reverse.

Work can get underway as early as April 2, with the bridge completion scheduled for August 22.  Additional work on landscaping and vegetation can continue through February 2019.

This was one of 16 road and bridge contracts recently awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation. Per state law they went to the lowest qualified bidder for each project. The contracts are worth $65.1 million, more than $852,000 under engineer estimates.
