LUMBERTON – A Robeson County
intersection will close starting next week to begin construction of a
roundabout.
Workers for McArthur Construction Co. of Lumberton plan to close
the intersection of West Carthage and Pine Log roads, just outside of Lumberton,
on Monday, Feb. 19. The intersection is scheduled to reopen in four months when
the roundabout is substantially completed, leaving permanent striping and
landscaping to be completed by the fall.
Traffic will detour around the construction using N.C. 211, Piney
Grove, Watts and Norment roads.
NCDOT is building the roundabout to reduce crashes. Utilities
around the intersection had to be relocated after the state Department of
Transportation awarded a $1.1 million contract to McArthur Construction last
fall.
