Labor Day Statewide ‘Booze It & Lose It’ Kickoff Campaign

​​The Governor’s Highway Safety Program is kicking off the annual Labor Day ‘Booze It & Lose It’ campaign by joining forces with the North Carolina Trucking Association, the Network of Employers for Traffic Safety, the North Carolina Highway Patrol and members of more than 500 law enforcement agencies around the state.

The event will be held virtually: 
Monday, Aug. 31, 2020
8:15 a.m.​

The public is invited to join in on the virtual event by registering here​.

The campaign will run Aug. 31 through Sept. 13.​

Fast facts:

  • The Labor Day holiday is the fourth most dangerous weekend to be on the roads behind New Year’s Eve, Christmas and St. Patrick’s Day.
  • High-visibility enforcement reduces drunk driving fatalities as much as 20 percent.
  • Historically, drunk driving accounts for nearly one-third of vehicle-related fatalities across North Carolina.​
