WINSTON SALEM – A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will temporarily close a portion of Interstate 40 East in Forsyth County as part of the Winston-Salem Northern Beltway project.
Weather permitting, the closure will begin at midnight on Friday. I-40 East will be closed between Exit 196 (I-74) and Exit 201 (Union Cross Road).
Drivers will be directed to exit onto I-74 and proceed to Union Cross Road (Exit 59). From there, turn left onto Union Cross Road and continue to the I-40 interchange to access I-40 East.
To avoid the work zone drivers are encouraged to use U.S. 421 (Salem Parkway).
Drivers should remain alert and prepare for potential delays when using detour routes and adapting to new traffic patterns.
