FOUNTAIN – Work begins today to reconstruct a half-mile section of N.C. 222 through the town of Fountain.
A contractor is starting the project by replacing the concrete curbs and gutters, driveways and sidewalks along the highway where it crosses U.S. 258. Drivers should slow down, be alert and expect brief delays while traveling through this work zone.
The tentative schedule includes closing N.C. 222 between U.S. 258 and Jefferson Street on Oct. 21. The closure will last approximately one month in order to complete this project. The N.C. Department of Transportation will announce those details at DriveNC.gov.
The $680,000 project includes milling and resurfacing the half-mile section of N.C. 222 traversing through Fountain to provide a safer and smoother ride.
