Closures Starting This Weekend on I-40 in Forsyth County

WINSTON-SALEM – Starting this weekend, an N.C. Department of Transportation contractor will close lanes and ramps along Interstate 40 in Forsyth County for an ongoing rehabilitation and bridge preservation project, weather permitting.

The following nightly closures are scheduled to take place from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning:

  • On Sunday and Monday, one of two lanes will be closed on I-40 East from Highway 74 to Highpoint Road.
  • On Sunday and Monday, two of three lanes are scheduled to be closed on I-40 East from east of Lewisville Clemmons Road to west of McGregor Road.
  • On Monday, two of three lanes are scheduled to be closed on I-40 East from east of Peters Creek Parkway to west of U.S. 52.
  • On Monday, one of two lanes are scheduled to be closed on I-40 East from west of Union Cross Road to east of Union Cross Road.

The following nightly closures are scheduled to take place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning:

  • On Sunday, one of two lanes in the both the northbound and southbound directions are scheduled to be closed on the Stratford Road bridge over I-40.
  • On Sunday and Monday, two of three northbound lanes are scheduled to be closed on the Peters Creek bridge over I-40.
  • On Sunday and Monday, one of two northbound and southbound lanes are scheduled to be closed on Hanes Mall Boulevard.
  • On Monday, one of the two northbound lanes on Buchanan Street directly below I-40 is scheduled to be closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

On Monday, the ramp from Highway 74/U.S. 311 West to I-40 East is scheduled to be closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning. A signed detour directing traffic to I-40 West and N.C. 109 to return to I-40 East will be in place.

Motorists should use caution while traveling through the work zone and plan accordingly for delays.
