SBMU PROJECT LETTINGS
 
NOTICE TO PROSPECTIVE BIDDERS

Effective January 1, 2009, the State Bridge Management Unit will be changing the way project notifications, plan and proposal distribution, and pre-bid meetings will be handled. The new process will be as follows:

1. "Invitation to Bid" letters will no longer be mailed to prospective bidders.

2. Notifications of projects will be advertised on the State Bridge Management Unit (SBMU) website at http://ncdot.gov/doh/operations/dp_chief_eng/maintenance/bridge/ under "Project Lettings". These notifications will be placed on the website one time a month, the same day as projects are advertised by the Project Services Unit (soon to be the Technical Services Unit), normally the third Wednesday of every month.

3. Project plans and proposals will no longer be mailed on request, but will be available for viewing and download from the same SBMU website. Hardcopies of sealed plans and proposals to be used for bidding and construction will be distributed at the mandatory pre-bid conferences. There will be no charge for the plans or proposals.

4. Bids will normally be received by the SBMU approximately five weeks after projects are advertised.

The intent of these changes is to insure all potential bidders are aware of advertised projects, and to provide plans and proposals on line for viewing and use prior to the pre-bid conferences.
